Being the only group of its kind in the entire area, the popularity of the group has increased dramatically, and Sound Celebration now has over 250 students enrolled. GOALS
:
To foster positive group interaction, build self-esteem and confidence in the youth through assisting them with developing a meaningful way of expressing themselves through song and dance.
  1. To assist youth in developing singing, dancing and performing skills.

  2. To provide opportunities for youth to perform and showcase the talents they are developing.

CLASS STRUCTURE:
Classes run for a fourteen week term in which the students will meet once a week for one hour.  Two teachers and a classroom assistant will be present during each one hour class.  For the 14 week term, the students work on putting a performance show together encompassing a central theme.  Some of our previous shows have centered around  Patriotic, American Pop, Broadway and Disney Themes.

This term will feature a Christmas theme.  We will perform our show in December.

At the end of the term, the students will perform their show two or three times at various community events.

A typical class, which runs for 1 hour, will be as follows:

bullet

2 minutes: Attendance and check-in

bullet

8 minutes: Warm Up (Voice and Dance)

bullet

20-25 minutes: Voice (Students learn the words and notes for all the songs in the show)

bullet

20-25 minutes: Dance (Students learn the dance steps to be used in the show)

bullet

5-10 minutes: Spotlight Solos (1 to 2 students in each class are given an opportunity to perform a solo in front of the entire class.  This is voluntary.)

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT:
Attendance and punctuality are essential to your growth in Stafford Performing Stars.  Please be on time!  Prior notice should be given if ever you must miss a class, rehearsals or performances.  We depend on the participation of everyone, you are all extremely important to Stafford Performing Stars so please commit to coming to class every week.  If you cannot be here, please call or e-mail me to let me know.  The success of our group depends on your attendance and  your commitment.

  1. A professional attitude is necessary.  Only courteous behavior, comments, etc, will be accepted toward your classmates and the teachers.  Excessive talking, interrupting, discipline problems, or lack of interest can be grounds for dismissal from class.  There will be no name-calling, gossiping, bad attitudes, and general meanness permitted.  If there is anyone doing this, you will have one warning, and then you will be dismissed.  Remember the old saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all?"  Well, that's one of our themes.  Also "Treat others as you would have others treat you" is another motto for our group.  This not only goes for students, but parents as well.

  2. Proper attire for class is T-shirts, comfortable pants or sweat pants, and comfortable shoes such as light tennis shoes or dance shoes.  No excessive jewelry or hair ornaments are to be worn to class or performances since they can affect the concentration of yourself and your classmates.

  3. No eating in class, this includes gum and candy.

PARENT INFORMATION:

  1. Parents may not attend class (except for first two weeks); neither should siblings or friends.  This is very distracting to the students. However, the first two weeks of the term are open classes: parents and friends may attend and watch the class.  After the first two weeks of the term, anyone waiting must wait in the waiting room and not in the classroom.

  2. Announcements and information are provided in the form of a  newsletter.  Newsletters are passed out at the end of class.  Make sure your child brings one home with them.  Dates, times and places of performances will be given out approximately one month in advance.  Be responsible for reading all of the Newsletters in Stafford Performing Stars.  These are the lifelines of our group.  All important information that you need to know is in the newsletter.  If for some reason, you don't receive your newsletter, I can e-mail it to you upon request.

  3. Transportation to and from class and performances is the responsibility of the parent.

  4. Costumes  are required for Stafford Performing Stars. They are used over again for each term. Students will need  black pants and a white long sleeved “Oxford” type shirt for the fall term and black pants and a white "polo" type shirt for the spring term, white tennis shoes and white socks which can be purchased at most department stores (please wait to purchase these items until I provide additional information later in the term). In addition, students will need to purchase from Sound Celebration a Red Bowtie, White gloves, and a Red Cumberbun. These cost $40 and are used every term. Group 4 will wear red suspenders and gloves $25.

  5. Tuition is figured on a term basis and is not refundable after the first two weeks of class. You may make payments or pay the entire term up front. If paid on the payment basis, tuition is $48 per month for the 4-month term which includes February, March, April and May. ($5 discount for a sibling). If you decide to pay in full, you will pay $168 per child, which is a discount of $24. Tuition is due the first class of each month. Make your check payable to Stafford Performing Stars and drop it in the tuition box located by the front door. There is a $5 late fee if payment is not made by the tenth of the month and a $10 fee for returned checks. After the first two weeks of class, you are responsible for paying for the entire term even if your child drops out early.

  6. Inclement Weather:  please e-mail performingstars@msn.com

  7.  Parent volunteers are also vital to our group.  I want to thank the generous people who have already volunteered their time.  As the show gets closer we will ask for "stage mom" volunteers.  This job includes working backstage at one of the shows.  You will help the other staff members by getting the props ready and helping the younger children with their props.  We also need help at the end of the term with our class parties.

  8. Please feel free to call during the week or send me an e-mail if any questions or problems arise.  I usually check my e-mail every day.  I am usually very busy with students before and after class, so pull me aside if you need to talk.  Stafford Performing Stars is designed not only for performance, but also to help each student with confidence and self-esteem.  I welcome phone calls or visits where we can discuss your child's individual growth and needs in the program.
